"On the Edge" is the 7th volume of the CULTURESCAPES book series, which deals with the cultural landscapes of the respective focus countries and regions in a scope extending beyond the festival. 17 texts by Polish writers, critics and curators from various areas of cultural and intellectual life offer insights into what is happening in Poland today: Wars of remembrance and post-artistic practices, migration crisis and contemporary theatre, insights into historical museums and an overview of music and cinema trends, fashion and urban life. The book cover from the series "Poland" by Piotr Uklański opens a dialogue with the photo series by another legendary artist, Konrad Pustoła.
The three book chapters are mapped along the lines that resonate in nowadays society the most. From Protests to a New Social Contract touches upon various fights and survivals throughout Polish history, creating an account of contemporary protests and their manifestations in culture. Pilgrimage into Spirituality looks into the role of the religion and the church in Polish political and social life, and into various artistic ways of contesting it and finding other modes of spiritual journeys. Memory Reimagined deals with the conflicting issues of Polish history, historical policies and experiences of living on the borderlands.
