Film

“Mali Blues” is a 2016 German documentary film directed by Lutz Gregor. The film tells the story of musicians Bassekou Kouyate, Fatoumata Diawara, Ahmed Ag Kaedi, and Master Soumy from the West African country of Mali, who fight with their music for a tolerant Islam and a country at peace. The film premiered in April 2016 at the international documentary film festival Visions du Réel in Nyon. “Mali Blues” is a colorful music film. African hip-hop meets the spirit of Jimi Hendrix, desert blues meets danceable AfroRock. A film about the unifying power of music that paints a positive picture of Africa and its people in times of countless horror stories. Germany, 2016, 92' Language: Bambara, Arabic, French, with German subtitles. Don't miss: Bassekou Kouyate will perform together with singer Amy Sacko at Kaserne Basel on November 22, 2023.
